Some time ago, Jason sent Allen an idea for a new song. The song consisted of two different BPM (beats per minute) signatures and a simple, driving rhythm.

Well, after many facelifts and re-arrangement, the song began to take shape. Allen would offer suggestions to Jason, nudging and influencing the song into a direction worthy of becoming a MC tune.

Finally, Jason balanced the two BPM timing parts into one cohesive piece. He then recorded some bass and programmed some drums. Allen took Jason’s bass and drums and re-worked them. Re-programming the drums and re-playing the bass, he breathed a new life into the song. He also added some tasty acoustic parts to the track. Then he doubled Jason’s acoustic on the chorus with some beefy, MC-styled heavy electric guitar.

Then came the task of lyrics and vocal melody.

Allen noted to Jason in a conversation that the song brought to mind an image of cruising down the interstate and getting to a point of just letting the car go. Shifting into “Overdrive”.

At first, Allen took a stab with lyrics but noted that the concept and melody made the song more like the ‘Oak Ridge Boys’ and passed the task of lyrics on to Jason.

Jason remembered Allen’s comments about the driving visual. He then added a sense of urgency of trying to get home to his loved one after being gone for some time. He wrote a sketch and sent it to Allen. Allen approved of the concept and urged Jason to proceed in that direction. Jason re-wrote it with a bit more polish but still could not quite get all the phrasing the way he wanted it. He sent what he had to Allen with a very, very rough idea of a vocal concept and in turn passed the baton to Allen. Allen picked up the pieces and made the song come even more alive. He recorded two tracks of vocals for Jason to choose from. Both agreed upon one track and Jason set to mixing it all together.

The method in which Allen sang the song had a very “live” feel to it. So Jason ran with that in mixing it in. He found some good crowd effects and added some clever EQ techniques to each track to really make the track sound as “live” as possible. The end result, both Allen and Jason feel, has a natural live, concert feel.

Please note that since either artist has not actually met the other in person, a genuine live performance is not likely soon. Therefor, the song is essentially what they interpret a live venue being (with tons of adoring fans and deafening cheers) :-)

Please come and enjoy a “front row seat” to a Montgomery California concert!
