Jason Whitman
At age 14, all Jason talked about was wanting to get a guitar. Thinking it was a passing phase, his father told him to borrow his friend’s guitar and invest the time to learn a song first. Jason’s friend taught him the easiest thing he knew... Tom Petty’s ‘Free Fallin’.
So, for his 15th birthday, Jason got a guitar (if it could be called such, it was this ugly old junker).
Jason proceeded to drive everyone in the house crazy learning how to play! But he never gave it up!
Always hanging out with other musician’s, Jason eventually would develop an eclectic taste in music.
His first love was always heavy and raw. From Metallica and Megadeth, to the Dead Milkmen and Fugazi. Though his favorites were Faith No More and Mike Patton’s side (err...original) group Mr. Bungle.
Being in high school at the time, the Seattle Scene hit hard then, and Jason jumped on board with the likes of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and even Queensrӱche’s “Empire” album (though not ‘Grunge’, they achieved enormous success during this period).
Later on, in ’94 Queensrӱche released their “Promised Land” EP and a band Jason had never heard of called Dream Theater released a new record called “Awake”. Those two bands (and in particular , those two albums) had a huge, lasting effect on him.
Meanwhile, Jason struggled on with the guitar. Constantly moving about the country and being self-taught, he never was able to formulate a band.
He eventually resigned himself to being a “lone” artist.
In 2003, Jason decided to make some changes in his life and gave his life to the Lord. Soon after he found a church and started singing with their worship team.
Eventually, he would re-locate to a different church, this time assuming a role as the electric guitar player for their worship team. Both gave him critical experience in playing with other “live” musicians.
In the last week of 2006, Jason and his family moved to Montgomery, AL. so he could learn a trade in technical/computer work. As part the job, he got a new MacBook and started recording and posting on the MacJams’ website. He also found a local church to become a part of... and to play guitar with!
Soon after, he met Allen and the two developed an instant friendship and writing relationship.
Allen, being the more seasoned musician and more capable producer has had a larger effect on Jason’s music and recording technique than anyone else.
